Kiryu's Quick Critiques - Rings

Hello everyone, Kiryu904 here. Today, I'll be giving my thoughts on Rings, which is directed by F. Javier GutiĆ©rrez and stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki and Vincent D'Onofrio. After watching this film, I was mostly disappointed by what I saw. While there was a slight amount of interesting stuff, it largely rehashed things from the first movie. There was also something revealed here that I wondered about before from the previous installments, but it turned out to be kind of a letdown. I also found nothing scary or even creepy in Rings. There were only lots of predictable and annoying jump scares. The characters in the film were pretty bland and the acting was a bit stiff at times. The special effects were kind of generic as well. The movie's score at least sounded different from The Ring Two, but it wasn't very memorable. So, this was ultimately a disappointing movie. Okay, that's all I have to say on this post. Bye, and look forward to more of my thoughts on upcoming movies.

Kiryu's Quick Critiques - iBoy

Hello everyone, Kiryu904 here. Earlier today, I watched the recent sci-fi thriller from Netflix called iBoy, which is based on the novel of the same name by Kevin Brooks. The movie is directed by Adam Randall and stars Bill Milner, Maisie Williams, Rory Kinnear and Miranda Richardson. I have to say, the premise of this film does sound silly: following an accident where fragments of his smartphone become embedded in his brain, a teenager named Tom awakens from a coma and soon discovers that the fragments have given him super powers. What I saw was actually a fairly serious story. It wasn't anything new, but I still found it entertaining. I liked some of the characters and how they interacted with each other. I particularly enjoyed seeing Tom doing various things with his abilities. The performances throughout the movie were pretty good and the special effects looked nicely done. Sadly, I thought the soundtrack was kind of standard. With all of that said, this was a cool movie, but nothing really that great. Okay, that's all I have to say on this post. Bye, and look forward to more of my thoughts on upcoming movies.

Kiryu's Quick Critiques - Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Hello everyone, Kiryu904 here. Today, I went to see Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, both written as well as directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Ian Glen and Shawn Roberts. This is, of course, the final installment in the Resident Evil film series, which is loosely based on the video game series of the same name. Unlike many other people, I've enjoyed all of the previous movies in this franchise, despite their flaws. The plot was simple, easy for me to follow, and had a decent resolution. I liked seeing the return of characters from the previous films. As for the new characters here, they weren't at all memorable and were pretty disposable. The acting from everyone wasn't noteworthy, but was serviceable. While the action was mostly hard to focus on, it still managed to be entertaining and the special effects were passable. The soundtrack had some awesome moments, but it wasn't exactly as good as those from the earlier movies. In closing, I thought this was a nice ending to the Resident Evil films. While it was lacking in areas, I still found it enjoyable. Okay, that's all I have to say on this post. Bye, and look forward to more of my thoughts on upcoming movies.

Kiryu's Quick Critiques - Morgan

Hello everyone, Kiryu904 here. Earlier today, I managed to catch the very first screening of Morgan at my nearest theater. The film is directed by Luke Scott and has an ensemble cast, which includes Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones and Paul Giamatti. While the premise of the movie isn't really original, it's still pretty entertaining. There was some nice tense moments and also good action. I thought the ending to Morgan was quite intriguing as well. For the most part, the acting was decent and some of the characters were kind of interesting. There were also some cool moments throughout the soundtrack. Overall, this was an alright sci-fi flick. Okay, that's all I have to say on this post. Bye, and look forward to more of my thoughts on upcoming movies.

Kiryu's Quick Critiques - 10 Cloverfield Lane

Hello everybody, Kiryu904 here. I just got back from seeing 10 Cloverfield Lane, which is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher, Jr. While this isn't a sequel to the 2008 film Cloverfield, it is instead a spiritual successor, or as J. J. Abrams has stated, "a blood relative" of that film. This movie seems pretty well made. It had an engaging story and was suspenseful at times. However, I was a little disappointed by the big creature reveal during the last part of the film. I thought the acting was pretty good and I enjoyed all of the characters and their interactions with each other. The special effects throughout the movie looked mostly average, in my opinion. I Thought the soundtrack was good, but it wasn't anything special. Overall, this is an interesting film, even though it wasn't an actual sequel to Cloverfield. Well, that's all I have to say on this post. Bye, and look forward to more of my thoughts on upcoming movies.
